You've pitched a project to an editor who is interested. Yay! But. They want to see an outline. You're a pantser! You like letting the story evolve through experimental writing! What are you going to do? Our panelists are those who outline plus those who usually don't outline but have learned to as they discuss strategies for developing an outline: How to keep the idea fresh in your mind, how to approach structure, how to infuse the outline with the passion you feel when pantsing the story, etc.

D&D is most TTRPG groups’ default ruleset, and it works well for a lot of cases, but it has a focus on fantasy and magic. This discussion will cover the technical and marketing challenges of blending distinct genres, like a “System Apocalypse” Western or a “Historical Romantasy.” Our experts will discuss how to satisfy the core expectations of multiple audiences simultaneously, avoid “tonal whiplash,” and effectively pitch a “mashup” story to agents and publishers who might be looking for a single shelf to put it on.
An Interactive Worldbuilding Jam
This isn’t just a discussion, it’s a live construction project. In this high-energy session, the audience and panelists will work together to build a brand new setting from scratch in 60 minutes. We’ll start with a random prompt and collectively decide on the laws of physics, the magic or tech systems, the societal hierarchies, and the “inciting incident” that makes the world ripe for a story. Learn the professional techniques for “logical worldbuilding,” while seeing how a simple idea can evolve into a complex, living universe.
